Four-way cross fittings are used to connect pipes and to change or control the flow through a piping system. Due to the four-way nature of cross fittings, cross fittings may exert pressure on piping when temperatures change. For this reason, cross fittings are generally not used as piping hydraulic components. Instead, cross fittings are more beneficial in situations where thermal expansion is not a problem, such as fire sprinkler systems and pneumatic applications.
